• Surge Protectors with Fuses: Inside the surge protector, the fuse is connected in series with the main circuit. When situations such as overcurrent, short circuits, or excessive surge energy occur, the fuse will blow within the specified time, quickly cutting off the circuit. This prevents the surge protector from being damaged due to overload and also avoids the further expansion of the fault, which could lead to safety accidents like fires. For example, under the impact of a direct lightning strike and other strong surges, extremely large currents may be generated, and the fuse can blow in a timely manner to cut off the circuit.

 

• Surge Protectors without Fuses: They mainly rely on their own overvoltage protection components, such as zinc oxide varistors, to limit the voltage and discharge the current. When a surge overvoltage appears in the circuit, these components will quickly conduct, limit the overvoltage within a certain range, and discharge the surge current into the ground. However, if situations such as continuous overcurrent or short circuits occur, it may not be able to effectively cut off the circuit, and there is a risk of damage.
